Essential Skincare Tips You Need To Know

Our skin is the largest organ in our body, and it is also the most prone to issues. Such as acne, dryness and breakage. If you want to keep your skin looking healthy and young for as long as you can in your lifetime you need to treat it right. And to do that there are several things you need to do.

Use the right face wash

You may have heard of the different skin types which everyone has; and you might even know which one your own is. It is incredibly important when you pick out a face wash, or any product, that you use the right one for your skin type. For example if you have dry skin, you need to avoid anything containing ingredients like tea tree or menthol because they are drying. When you have oily skin it is best to avoid a hydrating wash because your skin will end up greasy. Make sure you check out your skin type and read the box before you buy a product.

I’ve learnt over the years that I have an oily t zone and a dry chin/cheek area which always alters depending on the weather. I use separate products for where my skin is dry compared to the oilier parts and have noticed a dramatic difference

Drink A LOT

Drinking the right thing and enough of it is crucial for the skin. Because your cells need to stay hydrated, and be able to flush out infection. Water is the best drink you can consume for younger and healthier looking skin, and you should be drinking at least 2 litres every day for the best looking skin. I try and take a few mouthfuls of water every time I remember to.

Eat better

Our skin is like any other organ in the body. It is affected by the things we eat and how much we eat. You need to make sure you top up on the right nutrients for your skin to keep it plump and healthy, for as long as you can throughout your life. Omega 3 is an important nutrient for the cell wall of your skin and helps retain water in the cells. By adding more fish and nuts or seed into your diet, you will see a big difference in how awake your skin looks every day. Make sure you get a good mix of vegetables, protein and lots of essential oils to keep your skin clear.

Yes, you really ARE what you eat! Living on pizza, crisps and junk food? You’re practically inviting spots over for an afternoon tea. Eat well, don’t neglect your greens and your skin will thank you for it!

Moisturise

Moisture is one of the biggest factors in maintaining good skin. And no matter what skin type you have, it is essential to do. For oily skin you will want to find a light moisturiser such as a rose water spray or simple moisturiser. For dryer skin you can even find a few oil combinations which can soothe and revitalise your skin after a hard day. The best time to apply moisturiser is after a shower and then again just before you go to sleep at night. This will give your body a chance to absorb it overnight.

Don’t touch your face

One of the things which is a one way ticket to needing an acne treatment gel is touching your face all the time. It is really difficult to resist touching your face sometimes; but this is the number one way you will spread infection on your face and end up with acne. If you want to keep your skin clear and healthy for longer, take your hands away and let your skin breathe!

I didn’t realise how often I touched my face until my friend gave me this advice. Unless you’re a germaphobe and use hand sanitiser every 2 seconds your hands are never 100% clean. So think about what you’re putting on your face every time you put your head in your hands and sigh..

Don’t use too many products

Be careful with the amount of products you use on your skin, because too many conflicting chemicals can be a bad sign. Using a lot of chemicals on the skin can make your skin clog up and cause you to break out in more spots.

Don’t try every product at once. Give treatments a try before you start applying everything all in one go to give them a chance to work their magic. (That’s if it’s the right product for you!)

Always protect your skin from the sun

One of the most important things you can do for your skin is to make sure you provide sun protection for it throughout the year. It doesn’t matter if you are in the height of summer or the depths of winter. The sun is still in the sky and can penetrate your skin and cause some damage. Protecting your skin will not only keep your skin healthy and looking young, but it will also prevent you from suffering with skin cancer.

Avoid heat

The skin is a very delicate part of the body and it can be easily damaged by a lot of different factors. One of the main things that you need to work on is heat damage. Heat can be anything from the oven to your fireplace. And you need to try and keep your skin away from it as much as you can, so you don’t burn yourself.

Exfoliate three times a week

Exfoliation is a form of skincare which involves you using small beads to take away dead skin cells on the face. It is an incredibly important part of your skincare routine. This is because it allows you to clear your pores and prevent them from clogging up or forming blackheads. Ideally you will want to find an exfoliant which is natural, and you should do it three times a week to keep your skin glowing and clean.

Sometimes a facial wash just isn’t enough and our skin needs a good exfoliant to remove any dead skin

Apply vitamins

Ingesting vitamins isn’t the only way that you can keep your body and skin healthy and happy throughout the year. You can also use products in your skin which contain vitamins; such as vitamin e which is amazing for revitalising the skin and keeping it younger. The best time that you can apply products like this, is just after cleansing. So that the skin is completely clean and able to absorb the nutrients as much as possible.

Clean your makeup brushes!

One bad habit which a lot of us have is forgetting to wash our makeup brushes often enough. It can be far too easy to just use your brushes every day without thinking of rinsing them out. But after a while bacteria will begin to thrive and spread to your skin as you apply your makeup. Honestly the best way to keep your brushes clean, is by using a tub of warm water and baby shampoo, to wash the brushes gently. The next step is rinsing them and letting them dry overnight. It will help to keep your makeup looking fresh and your skin clean and bright every day.
