None of us want to look old before our time. We don’t wake up in the morning wishing we had a few more wrinkles or thinner hair; so it’s unfortunate that so many of us have developed habits that, if we don’t give them up, WILL likely lead to us looking older than we actually are.
Some of these bad habits we know are bad for us, but others we’re clueless about, which can make it pretty difficult to give them up. Which is why this list has been put together of some of the worst habits for making us look older. Check them out below and change as many of them as you can if you want people to think you’ve been drinking from the fountain of youth… (Wouldn’t that be nice?)
Smoking is probably the worst of all the bad habits we can pick up, especially when it comes to our health. We all know that smoking can lead to nasty illnesses such as heart disease and cancer, which should be enough for you to give it up as it is, but did you know that smoking will also wreak havoc with your skin?
When you smoke, you release carbon monoxide into your body and the air around you and this can reduce the amount of oxygen in your skin which can dry it out and color it. You also release nicotine which does the same, and the smoke that surrounds you is pretty good at depleting nutrients from your body too, which is why smokers tend to have more wrinkles than their peers.
Sorry for the telling off! I used to be a smoker and am now vaping and the differences are incredible.

Using the Hottest Straightener Setting
You may think that you need to use that hottest setting because your hair is so unruly and it’s the only thing that will tame it, but you could be making matters worse for yourself, albeit in a very different way. You see, when you blast your delicate hair with heat, small air bubbles are created in the shaft of the hair and this can lead to your hair breaking, appearing thinner and making you look older than you actually are. In order to combat this, use more products and a cooler heat setting to achieve that sleek look you’re after, and if you’re using a hairdryer, hold it slightly further away than you usually would. The less heat and the lower the intensity, the better it will be for your hair.
I’m guilty of this as I always use my GHD’s at 230 degrees and after a while my hair is so frazzled…
Devouring Junk Food
There’s nothing wrong with eating junk food once in a while, but if you regularly scoff down sugary, greasy carb-heavy food, you could be eating your way to premature aging. When you eat things like sugar and fat, they play havoc with your body’s cells, creating free radicals and preventing your body from producing enough collagen – the stuff that plumps out your skin and keeps it smooth. So, instead of snacking on the bad stuff, eat more fruits, veggies and healthy proteins when you’re peckish and they will keep you looking younger and glowing for far longer. YOU CAN DO IT!
Wearing Tight Ponytails
The ponytail is a very convenient way of doing your hair because it takes seconds to achieve and ensures that your hair looks neat. However, it is not a particularly good choice if you want to keep your luscious locks well into old age. If you scrape your hair back really tightly it can pull at the roots causing hair loss, alopecia and even a receding hairline. The good news is that you can reverse this kind of hair loss by simply being kinder to your hair and using looser styles to keep it in check; such as a loose lower ponytail that doesn’t pull your hair.
Throwback to the days of teen sleepovers!
You might have a great time staying up all night going to great parties and drinking with good friends, but you will pay for it. The body needs rest in order to repair and rejuvenate itself and if you don’t give it what it needs, chances are you will start to look older. But you already know that right?
