February Subscription Box Reviews – Glossybox VS Birchbox

So I am majorly delayed with with this post, sorry about that! I don’t know where this month has gone!

But anyway another month has passed, and as always I have received my two monthly beauty subscription boxes; Glossybox and Birchbox. February has been an awful month so far to say the least. I’ve had a lot of stress at work but don’t worry I won’t bore you with it! I’ve already bored myself with whinging about it. So I’ll jump straight in with the reviews of these boxes, which both turned up on the same day for once! Usually there a few days apart, so it was an exciting day when they both arrived!

Sleek mineral based eyeshadow palette

In vintage romance shade. Very nice indeed! It’s awesome having a full size product in your box and there is a good variety of shades which go well with my current make up routine.

Skin chemists aqua repair facial serum

I used this after removing all my make up and my skin felt instantly hydrated and fresh!

Ciate mini nail varnish

This came in ‘What The Shell’ shade which is a bright purple colour with a blue hue to it. I normally stick to either black nails or a plain nude colour, nothing too outrageous. When I first saw the colour I thought ‘oooh I don’t know if I like that’ but I put it on and I’m now in love with the colour! It also goes really well with my hair which is pink & purple so this was an excellent choice for my box!

Steve Laurant lip gloss

This posh looking pot of lip gloss was a nice treat as I don’t ever spend out on nice lip products. The pot itself fits just right in my make up bag, although a little bulky. I love the colour it gave to my lips and they felt nicely moisturised.

Studio 10 make up mist glow-plexion

This is an all in one primer, hydrating most and setting spray. I have only ever used one setting spray which was really cheap so I wasn’t expecting too much and couldn’t really tell the difference. It was hard to get a light spray with this and however far away I seemed to hold it I ended up both a drenched face and uneven splatters. Maybe it’s just me, but I wouldn’t pay full price for this product. I’d rather stick to using a quick light spray of hairspray to keep my make up on! 🙁

So Birchbox sent out an email before February’s boxes were dispatched, asking which one I would like to choose. The choices were the 70’s, the 80’s and the 90’s. I went for the 90’s option as I’m a 90’s baby.

The box design was colourful and eye-catching as always, and here’s what was inside:

  • The beauty crop eyeshadow trio

Came in ‘love u so latte’ shade which is neutral colours perfect for an ever day look, or you can blend together and use the darkest shade for a more glam evening style.

  • Lord & Berry crayon concealer

In shade beige. Sorry Birchbox this done nothing for me! Didn’t match my skin tone at all and I have to use a liquid concealer rather than crayon as my skin can be dry.

  • Percy & Reed London hair finishing polish

I tried this on my stepdaughters hair as mine was so greasy at the time of writing this post I wouldn’t have seen the benefit. It helped to tame her flyaways, and appeared to give a bit of volume as well which I wasn’t expecting.

  • Cowshed cow pat moisturising hand cream

Erm sorry? Did I just Read cow pat? Although reluctant to try as it really felt like I was going to be rubbing cow poop into my hands, I gave it a go with no questions asked. I wasn’t overly keen on the smell (bitter) but my hands felt soft and moisturised after so I won’t complain too much!

  • And yes there is one product missing from the photo which is the Luseta Beauty Coconut Milk Hair Mask

I didn’t photograph this product as when this box was delivered to me my hair was in an awful state so I popped that bad boy out the box and used it straight away and I am not sorry! My hair felt silky smooth after and definitely improved the appearance of my hair. So this was a good’un!

Overall it was a tad annoying to have two hair products in this months box and not a wider variety. I would definitely use the coconut milk hair mask again (if the price was more reasonable) and the eyeshadow won’t go to waste! The other products were just a bit ‘merrr’ for me and I wouldn’t buy them again.

I’d say Glossybox stood out for me this month as I am more likely to use the products included.
